Kinja'd!!!

This will never not be fun.

*Svend Disclamer* This car is 18 years old and has driven to the moon. The paint is too far gone to be spending good money to preserv e and care for correctly . Pls don’t crucify me.

I don’t know, last time I posted a carwash vid, Svend was upset by it:

I am going to a touchless wash now, but it is much less interesting to look at (though they did recently add a bunch of new LEDs to spice up the experience)

You just made me a Svend cringe, and Svend probably passed out.

That just means you cheapen out and got the basic wash. The full luxury wash you get tri-coloured foam.

No way, I always get the highest grade wash. The one in the video didn’t do the multicolor thing. The one I go to these days does (though the density isn’t great).

I sure hope it was touchless.

Touchless only works if they use strong chemicals, and even then it’s not really that good.

Neither options are great compared to a proper hand wash, but time and convenience is also valuable.

I hand wash my new truck, especially since it has a bed rack system that is a risk in a automated car wash, but all my older cars go through a auto wash.

I do prefer to go to wash that let you dry and vacuum at the end.  Gives me a chance to go over the car and do the final detail work, inspect for any damage, etc.

I only go to the touch car washes. I need some physical contact....

This is an 18yo car with 260k miles. The paint is so scratched and swirled at this point that a car wash can't possibly do any sort of noticable damage and it's not worth spending good money to svend it properly.

That’s why I only use it on my sedan when it’s really really muddy and slushy from salted roads, but still follow up with a regular hand wash.

Can’t say no to free.

This car wash  is actually really swanky for not being touchless. Before you go in an attendant goes around and pressure washes your wheels and mirrors and any other areas that car washes usually have trouble getting.

I can relate.  The car wash we use has a waiting room where you can watch the cars go through, but also has a really complete vintage model train set running all along the ceiling.  It’s hard to decide which to watch.

I’m actually a quandary. I’ve been putting off washing my car for way too long. We do go to a touchless wash sometimes. But, I like to hand wash well and hand dry when I’m going to wax. This K900 is way bigger than my RX-8 was. I physically can’t reach the top or even the center of the hood (bonnet) unless I buy a wand of some sort. Problem is, even if I wash it that way, I can’ really do a proper hand wax if I can’t reach the areas that need it.

So, I’ve just been avoiding the problem, and Genie just gets filthier...

Waxe s while nice, degrade faster and less durable.

Maybe look at some sealants such as Adam’s Guard and Gloss, applied to a wet car using damp and dry towels and cloths, doesn’t smear much, gives a deep glossy shine like a wax and is more durable.

Kinja'd!!! Chariotoflove > Svend
07/12/2018 at 17:40

Kinja'd!!!0

Is that something that still needs lots of elbow grease to rub on and off, or could it be properly applied with a wand/reacher?

Kinja'd!!! Svend > Chariotoflove
07/12/2018 at 18:11

Kinja'd!!!1

Needs very little elbow grease.

Take a wet car, spray some H2O Guard and Gloss onto a damp towel, wipe onto paint, glass or plastics and buff with a dry microfibre.

Alternatively I think maybe (if you have a snow foam lance of pressure pump sprayer), is CarPro HydroFoam.

Pump method, used as a shampoo and seal

Car was method after a car shampoo

snow foam lance applied method,

How ever you wish to apply is, it’s literally, apply, pressure rinse and then dry the vehicle.

If you were to wax, it’s best to wax then use a sealant.

Waxing on top of a sealant, will negate the properties of the sealant.

Really? I thought it was the more durable layer going first.

Kinja'd!!! Svend > 404 - User No Longer Available

It’s up to the individual but if you seal then wax, you have a top coat that gives a nice warm gloss, but is less durable and degrades faster in heat, UV light and rain and get none of the benefits of the sealant until the wax has gone.

Sealing on top of the wax, while being less durable than sealing directly onto the paint will allow the nice warm gloss of the wax but also the beading/sheeting and UV protecting qualities of the sealant. You can also keep topping up the sealant each month or so, considerably extending the life of the sealant and the wax beneath.
